The summer weekday timetable on the Ffestiniog saw three Double Fairlie locomotives in operation, plus Single Fairlie Taliesin on the early bird trip.
Two big events took place over the year on the Ffestiniog, the first one being the Steam 150 May Bank Holiday Gala, the second was the Vintage Victorian Weekend in October.
I was in attendance over all three days of the event. From the sight of four George England locomotives lines up at Porthmadog to seeing a gravity train round the spiral this is an event that will live long in the memory.
With video footage to the above, my pictures are divided into different galleries, which you can click on an image and scroll through larger images if you wish. The gallery is decided into the following parts:-
Goods trains were a key feature of the 2013 Victorian Weekend, with a variety of loco hauled and gravity powered slate trains alongside a short mixed rake of freight wagons.
The original Ffestiniog Railway locomotive, Princess, was cosmetically restored for the anniversary celebrations. During March, she took pride of place at Paddington station for a months display, advertising the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways. It's slightly younger sister Prince took a trip to London as well. She went down for the Acton Depot open day and was fresh from overhaul.
Reopened in 1955, the Ffestiniog Railway runs from Porthmadog through to Blaenau Ffestiniog. From Porthmadag the Welsh Highland Railway runs north to Caernarfon through a mixture of former Welsh Highland and LNWR lines.
