As commemorations remembering the end of steam on the Southern region in 1967 take place in the south, on Thursday 6th July 2017 saw Merchant Navy 35018 British India Line on her loaded main line test around the Carnforth circuit, seen her at Hoghton Bottoms.

Following a couple of seasons in LMS livery as 12322, 52322 now carries early BR emblem and BR number. Footage and more images of the locomotive in action of the East Lancs on 24th/26th February (including arriving at the new Burrs Country Park station) can be found here...
Video footage A1 60163 Tornado on the 'I ♥ S&C' special service trains along the Settle to Carlisle line between Appleby and Skipton on 14th February.
An early start for a drive up to Appleby was in order, arriving around 7am was well worth the day ahead. Our first clips see Tornado making hard work out of the sidings at Appleby to form the 08:25 to Skitpon. I enjoyed the journey behind the A1 as far as Settle, where we see her depart for Skitpon. Next we see the northbound service at two locations on the climb over Blea Moor, before we finally see the tender first afternoon working at Ais Gill.
Southern 0-6-0 30541 and 4-6-0 777 Sir Lamiel double head into Quorn & Woodhouse station on Sunday 29th January 2017. Click here for my gallery of pictures from the Sunday of the GC Winter Steam Gala. Video to follow tomorrow.
Steam returns to the main line this week with Leander hauling the Cumbrian Mountain Express today. Next month Tornado returns to the S&C operating three days of 'timetabled' services between Appleby and Skipton. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway has been operating timetabled steam main line steam, although as Open Access rather than under franchise, for ten years this year. Here in this look at my footage from the NYMR from 2015/16, we take a look at shots in location order from Whitby to Pickering.
Next weekend sees the first big gala event of the year with the Bluebell's Q class visit the Great Central Railway in a line up which could feature up to 10 locomotives in steam. I plan to be in attendance on the Sunday with footage and photos following in the following days.
This Saturday's compilation is a look back at former Industrial Steam locomotives operating in 2016. Next Saturday we can look forward to a look back at my footage from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway's during 2015 and 2016 in Whitby to Pickering 2015/16.
The Whats On Guide has had a further major update with 2017 events added for a number of lines including the Tanfield, Romney, Middleton and Pontypool. Keep an eye on the Locomotive Galleries as I am currently adding more pictures including too the following pages:

With snow forcast for this week we have a throw back to a year ago when Black Five 45407 is seen approaching Townsend Fold level crossing.
It's been a year since Flying Scotsman made her first daylight moves on the East Lancs as part of her running in trails. In this special compilation video of my footage of her from 2016, we take a look back at her first year back in steam.
During January we will take a weekly look back at 2016, with compilations of footage, next Saturday its the turn of Industrial Steam.
Welcome to 2017, a year of commemorations looking back to 50 years since the end of Southern Steam. 2017 special events listings can be found on the Whats On Guide. 2016 was a busy year for myself with regular railway visits across England and Wales, including many first times visits, with visits from Tanfeild in the North East, to Bodmin & Wenford at the opposite end of the country in the South West.
My final trip during 2016 was to the Llangollen Railway for their Winter Warmer Gala. Click here for a full video and picture gallery from the event.
My video best bits from 2017 can be found here (part one can be found by clicking here):
I've got another week off work this week so expect a few new compilation videos this week; currently planned are 'Flying Scotsman 2016' and an 'Industrial Steam Locomotives 2016', plus possibly a couple of locomotive compilations for use in my Locomotive Gallieries. Also 2016 saw me move into our first house, and this has meant I've been able to start creating my model railway; expect a new model blog to start up in the coming weeks.
LMS Crab 2-6-0 13065 passes through Burrs Country Park Halt on Wednesday 21st December 2016.

6880 Betton Grange was the star of the show at Warley National Model Railway show. The locomotive which is under construction at Llangollen was seen for the first time in public with a boiler in place., The boiler was from the groups other locomotive Cogan Hall, which had been fitted to work out where pipping should go. I finally took the opportunity to sign up, why don't you too visit www.6880.co.uk for full membership and sponsorship details. It was my first visit to Warley, which takes place in Hall 5 of the NEC, and what an enjoyable day. Patience is key to the day with a large crowd for both viewing of layouts and bargains (the Bachmann returned stock stand was particularly busy... where I managed to get myself an industrial Jinty and some Scenecraft buildings for knockdown prices). Click here for my gallery for images from the day.

The Severn Valley Railway, held a Season Finale Steam Gala, over the first weekend of November. I visited on the Sunday, which was a day of mixed weather. GWR (ex-Port Talbot Railway) 0-6-0ST 813 is seen above departing Hampton Loade in the beautiful morning sunlight, the fresh form overhaul locomotive was the star of the show for myself; alongside the East Lancs Crab 13065 which looked magnificent at the head of the rake of LMS coaches. Click here for a link to my stills and video gallery from the event.
Railways are starting to announce their 2017 special events, with events at Llangollen, Severn Valley, West Somerset, Spa Valley and Churnet Valley being amongst those already listed on the Whats On Guide... click here to visit the Whats On Guide and get planning your 2017 event visits... highlights of the 2017 season include the Mid Hants End of Southern Steam Commemorations...
I took a further Flying visit to the East Lancs last Sunday, catching Flying Scotsman and City of Wells heading north out of Ramsbottom (and also tender first with up trains). Click here for pictures and video...
Slowly I'm adding starting on more locomotive galleries. New and updated pages include Royal Scot's, Flying Scotsman, Flying Pig, Princess Royal and Great Northern Railway locomotives, but many other galleries have been added, click here to visit the index.
One of my favourites from the Welsh Highland Great & Small III event, is this one of Prince taking water from the heritage water crane at Beddgelert.
Flying Scotsman was back in action on the East Lancashire Railway, on Thursday 13th to Sunday 16th October 2016, hauling passenger and dinning services between Bury and Rawtenstall. Footage and pictures of the iconic engine from the Thursday and Friday of the events can be found here. Locations include Burrs, Summerseat and the steps of Townsend Fold Box. During the event I took my first trip behind the A3 on an enjoyable working members special on Thursday night, along with being Townsend crossing keeper for the Friday night dinner.
The previous weekend was the Ffestiniog's Vintage Weekend, pictures and video from my two days of travelling and walking around the line can be found here... The weekend saw a trip with my dad to an event for the first time in a few years, the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Gala was the location, with Britomart running through the original Grosmont tunnel being one of the highlights of the Welsh themed gala with 7822 Foxcote Manor topping the bill on the standard gauge services, click here for pictures and video.
