Steam returns to the main line this week with Leander hauling the Cumbrian Mountain Express today. Next month Tornado returns to the S&C operating three days of 'timetabled' services between Appleby and Skipton. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway has been operating timetabled steam main line steam, although as Open Access rather than under franchise, for ten years this year. Here in this look at my footage from the NYMR from 2015/16, we take a look at shots in location order from Whitby to Pickering.
Next weekend sees the first big gala event of the year with the Bluebell's Q class visit the Great Central Railway in a line up which could feature up to 10 locomotives in steam. I plan to be in attendance on the Sunday with footage and photos following in the following days. This Saturday's compilation is a look back at former Industrial Steam locomotives operating in 2016. Next Saturday we can look forward to a look back at my footage from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway's during 2015 and 2016 in Whitby to Pickering 2015/16.
The Whats On Guide has had a further major update with 2017 events added for a number of lines including the Tanfield, Romney, Middleton and Pontypool. Keep an eye on the Locomotive Galleries as I am currently adding more pictures including too the following pages:
The 2017 special events page with most railways 2017 calendar now online. The steam gala page is being regularlly updated as locomotive line ups are being announced for the spring season. I've updating two locomotive profile pages today with videos and larger galleries: With snow forcast for this week we have a throw back to a year ago when Black Five 45407 is seen approaching Townsend Fold level crossing.
It's been a year since Flying Scotsman made her first daylight moves on the East Lancs as part of her running in trails. In this special compilation video of my footage of her from 2016, we take a look back at her first year back in steam. During January we will take a weekly look back at 2016, with compilations of footage, next Saturday its the turn of Industrial Steam.
Welcome to 2017, a year of commemorations looking back to 50 years since the end of Southern Steam. 2017 special events listings can be found on the Whats On Guide. 2016 was a busy year for myself with regular railway visits across England and Wales, including many first times visits, with visits from Tanfeild in the North East, to Bodmin & Wenford at the opposite end of the country in the South West. My final trip during 2016 was to the Llangollen Railway for their Winter Warmer Gala. Click here for a full video and picture gallery from the event. My video best bits from 2017 can be found here (part one can be found by clicking here): I've got another week off work this week so expect a few new compilation videos this week; currently planned are 'Flying Scotsman 2016' and an 'Industrial Steam Locomotives 2016', plus possibly a couple of locomotive compilations for use in my Locomotive Gallieries. Also 2016 saw me move into our first house, and this has meant I've been able to start creating my model railway; expect a new model blog to start up in the coming weeks.
