Celebrating 200 Years since Richard Trevithick's rail locomotive ran on the Merthyr Tydfil Penydarren Tramway. Having earlier built a road steam locomotive in 1801 in Cornwall, this locomotive was the first steam railway locomotive.
The event brought together some of the most well known steam, diesel and electric locomotives. One of the star attractions was the recently overhauled 3440 City of Truro. The Great Western 4-4-0 was celebrating its 100mph (unofficial) record run down the South Devon bank. Its return to steam included a main line return to the South Devon banks. The event also saw the public launch of 4472 Flying Scotsman in National ownerships, unfortunately it failed just before the event and was only on static display. |
