A versatile mixed traffic locomotive, there had been 289 built by 1913. 272 made it into LNER service and 127 survived into British Railways service. There go anywhere natured was typified when in 1957 two were allocated to Aylesbury to work freight on the Western Region Princes Risborough to Watlington branch. One locomotive survives, 65462, having been preserved by the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway Society. Her latest overhaul was completed in 2015 (by Riley and Sons in Bury) which returned the locomotive back into Y14 condition.
