The Llanberis Lake Railway runs along the route of the former 4ft gauge Padarn Railway built to transport slate from the Dinorwic Slate Quarries to the Port of Dinorwic on the Menai Straits. One of the original locomotives from this line survives today on display at the National Trust's Penrhyn Castle.
