The last weekend of November saw Santa's start on a fair number of railways, including the East Lancs, where above we see Class 33109 Captain Bill Smith departing Rawtenstall with some snow on the ground and surrounding hills.
On Sunday I visited the Warley National Model Railway Exhibition at the NEC, an excellent day with two standard gauge visitors in the form of the Bluebell's H class and GWR 1450. A selection of pictures from the day can be found here.
A large number of new video and stills galleries from visits this year:
Over the last week I've finally got round to upload a large variety of videos from this year including footage from my trip to the North East over Easter and a variety of days out over the summer:
I'll be working on adding photo galleries over the coming weeks... 111 years of the GWR at Old Oak Common was celebrated on 2nd September with an Open Day.
In the coming weeks a full picture gallery and video will follow, along with footage and pictures from my travels during August including Jinty 47406 at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, West Lancs Light Railway Gala, Blackpool Trams and many more.
As commemorations remembering the end of steam on the Southern region in 1967 take place in the south, on Thursday 6th July 2017 saw Merchant Navy 35018 British India Line on her loaded main line test around the Carnforth circuit, seen her at Hoghton Bottoms. 3P20 Parcels Group: 8F 48624 on Mixed Freight on the East Lancs
Please note the opening tunnel shot was taken under strict supervision and should not under any circumstances be repeated on normal service trains. Following a couple of seasons in LMS livery as 12322, 52322 now carries early BR emblem and BR number. Footage and more images of the locomotive in action of the East Lancs on 24th/26th February (including arriving at the new Burrs Country Park station) can be found here...
Video footage A1 60163 Tornado on the 'I ♥ S&C' special service trains along the Settle to Carlisle line between Appleby and Skipton on 14th February.
An early start for a drive up to Appleby was in order, arriving around 7am was well worth the day ahead. Our first clips see Tornado making hard work out of the sidings at Appleby to form the 08:25 to Skitpon. I enjoyed the journey behind the A1 as far as Settle, where we see her depart for Skitpon. Next we see the northbound service at two locations on the climb over Blea Moor, before we finally see the tender first afternoon working at Ais Gill. Southern 0-6-0 30541 and 4-6-0 777 Sir Lamiel double head into Quorn & Woodhouse station on Sunday 29th January 2017. Click here for my gallery of pictures from the Sunday of the GC Winter Steam Gala. Video to follow tomorrow.
Steam returns to the main line this week with Leander hauling the Cumbrian Mountain Express today. Next month Tornado returns to the S&C operating three days of 'timetabled' services between Appleby and Skipton. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway has been operating timetabled steam main line steam, although as Open Access rather than under franchise, for ten years this year. Here in this look at my footage from the NYMR from 2015/16, we take a look at shots in location order from Whitby to Pickering.
Next weekend sees the first big gala event of the year with the Bluebell's Q class visit the Great Central Railway in a line up which could feature up to 10 locomotives in steam. I plan to be in attendance on the Sunday with footage and photos following in the following days. |
